John A.Goldsmith is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Chicago. He is the author of Autosegmental Phonology(1979),editor (with G.N.Clements) of Autosegmental Studies in Bantu Tone (1984) and editor and translator of Essays on Syntax and Semantics (1990) by Nicolas Ruwet.
