In the Priestly Writer and the Deuteronomists, the Blessing is divinely simple: "Be fruitful and multiply." In the Yahwist (and in Mann) I read the Blessing as "More life into a time without boundaries." If you have the Blessing, your name will not be scattered but will live on in communal memory. Without remembrance, no Blessing. Ironies abound (in J and in Mann), usurpations are frequent and cunning rather than holiness is the pragmatic qualification for election.
