读过 The Coming of the French Revolution
"The patricians began the Revolution," wrote Chateaubriand; "the plebeians finished it." The first act of the Revolution, in 1788, consisted in a triumph of the aristocracy, which, taking advantage of the government crisis, hoped to reassert itself and win back the political authority of which the Capetian dynasty had despoiled it. But, after having paralyzed the royal power which upheld its own social preeminence, the aristocracy opened the way to the bourgeois revolution, then to the popular revolution in the cities and finally to the revolution of the peasants--and found itself buried under the ruins of the Old Regime.引自 Prologue
