In 2006, he was awarded the Order of the Polar Star, Mongolia’s highest national honor for foreigners.

In 2006, he was awarded the Order of the Polar Star, Mongolia’s highest national honor for foreigners.
His books in the late 20th century on the influence of Native American cultures have been translated into numerous languages. In addition to publishing chapters and reviews in academic books and journals, Weatherford has published numerous articles in national newspapers to popularize his historic and anthropological coverage of Native American cultures, as well as the American political culture in Congress in the 20th century. He has become a frequent commentator on TV and radio.

如果说杉山正明是蒙古—世界情结在日本学界的化身,Weatherford则可谓这一情结在英文世界的领路人?基本上将成吉思汗和蒙古势力视为了连通欧亚、形成欧亚大陆文明政治板块(如果有这种东西的话)和亚洲接入世界史的最重要一步

非常能扯(中性)。行文大气美观,有吸引力。可惜有些小地方不太严谨。我读到的:蒙元以轻骑兵战术得天下,以商业帝国守成,亡于黑死病对商业的破坏。

满足了后现代对克里斯玛的一切幻想:成吉思汗强调男女平等!成吉思汗提倡和平共存!成吉思汗支持宗教自由!作者还声称:“我一定要到蒙古草原上,骑着心爱的马儿,领悟成吉思汗的伟大与光辉!”历史建构的性质显露无疑,不会中文,不会蒙文,不会波斯文(那又如何能读懂《史集》),不会德语……用所谓“全球史”的视角淡化基本的史学功底和语文学道德,是其畅销的重要原因。

这本书我竟然读了三年,真是夸张的拖延症,整本书很好读,看得出作者文笔不错,读得很通畅,怎么说呢,即使这本书是野史,也让我对曾经不可一世的蒙古王朝有了些许了解,成吉思汗或许不只会只识弯弓射大雕
