Vitalism for the ages
Starts off with Latour’s “We were never modern” and argues against the dismissal of serious ontological inquiries in the contemporary academic field. disagree with previous review that Bennett’s vitalism is necessarily collaborative with a capitalist project. The main difference between the vitalism discussed here and a more traditional OOO (object oriented ontology) is the former’s concern with ethics.
Would recommend the chapter on commodity fetishim and the frankfurt school as clarification on the ways in which some commodities sometimes may have enchanting qualities, found this to be refreshing and additive argument to human experiences within capitalism and obviously part of a much needed engagement with the failure of “awakening” against the mystification of commodities so heavy-handedly advocated for by Horheimer and Adorno.
