短暂的Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem
The Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem was founded in 1099 when the first Crusaders took (and sacked) the city of Jerusalem. Godfry of Bouillion was its first ‘king’ and his brother Baldwin I after him.
I’ve seen a comment online about the nine crusades: “It’s like when you are playing the basketball and scored from very far away for the first time, and then try it 8 more times but never replicated the success.” I guess the question isn’t really, why did the other 8 crusades fail, but rather, how did the First Crusade even succeed. Certainly there were many moments during the First Crusade that failure seemed imminent, and it was no small miracle that they did succeed (which can’t be said to be a really good thing since they sacked Jerusalem brutally).
So I guess, the fall of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem was inevitable considering its precarious situation, but it’s still very interesting (and admirable) that/how it thrived while it did.
