读书笔记
看完了这部厚厚的书,终于把耶茨出版的9本书还有他的一本传记全看完了。
和耶茨其他的长篇比较起来,厚厚的这本几乎全都在讲男女关系,写Davenport夫妇的相恋、结婚、离婚,然后各表一枝地讲述两个人在几十年中的情事,无不以欢爱始,以分手终,所以全书都是一种悲伤的调子,不过呢,除了《A Good School》,耶茨哪本书不是这样呢?总是一片愁云惨雾。不喜欢这种风格的读者会很排斥,喜欢的仍会觉得耶茨让人难以抗拒。
耶茨的作品大都有自身的影子,他是在写作中把自身经历用到极致的作家。这部的主人公Michael Davenport像耶茨,而书中出现的一个角色Carl Traylor则完完全全就是耶茨自己。
值得一提的,耶茨笔下有很多成年主人公都是文青,这也是耶茨终生醉心写作的投射。这部书中,男主人公是位诗人,而女主人公Lucy则在文艺中尝试的更多,业余演过戏,学过绘画、写作等,无一成功,后来毅然把丰厚的身家捐给了“国际大赦”组织,并在其中辛勤地工作,真是令人称奇的转变。书中最后一幕,她跟前夫吃饭时,说了“FxxK art”这样的狠话,看来文青也有觉悟的时候。
这部小说已经引进,《十一种孤独》的译者陈新宇翻译,上海译文出版社明年上半年和我译的短篇集《Liars in Love》一起出。
