Yeah,I knew the title was nonsense,.of course this fiction was classic, it was written by Lawrence Block for fuck's sake. The plot was absolutely spellbinding ,although this book was not one of Block's best.
Block was much alike Raymond Chandler in more than one ways: the superb characterization, the smooth writing, the dark humor, and the dead woman one after another. Allen Poe once said "The death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world". The theme perhaps was strictly abided by every male detective writer as a creed.
The killer. One can never imagine what nasty things a disgusting pervert with a malignant nature can do to women, moreover the bastard being attatched to women's anus, was definitely a drag queen deep inside, who would never admit to himself. So he took out to women, abused them physically and mentally. This fucking coward deserved more than a quick death and an easy one.
Matthew was surprisingly sober and cute in this book, even though sometimes he came across as being awkward. The funniest episode occured in the Central park. After giving one young man a good dressing-down, Matthew smiled to the woman who saw the whole occurrence, "It's nothing to worry about, That's the way we handle things on Mars."HAHAHAHA.
Matthew’s notion at the AA meeting was quite thought-provoking:
"I tuned in now and then when some speaker's anger was voluble enough to break in on my reverie, but for the most part I just let my mind drift and took emotional sanctuary in the meeting. It was a nasty world outside and I'd been seeking out the nastiest part of it for the past few hours, but in here I was just another alcoholic trying to stay sober, same as everyone else, and that made it a very safe place to be."
