something about his broad study content
It is really hard to finish this book espcially when I am very anxious about looking for the future direction of my phd thesis. So I just roughly read the 1,2 and last chapter, but I have to say that Giddens is a great writer, he did so many researches covering many distinct topics, but also connected them together. For example, he talked about people are lack of self-identity due to the modernity, but also tradditons are changed or reconstructed by modernity, then mordenity is associtated with globalizaiton(acutally I am still not sure how he defined the relationship between those two), and he talked about the subversion of researches that are totally changed during couples of years, also, he tried to put one foot on the political issue, like discussing the women emancipatory, which can also be found in his another book.
It seems that globalizaion is part of his main idea, then other topics are just attached to it. But I am confused that I have heard his main topic is the constitution of society, how does that connected with the topics I talked before?
Another thing is that although his books are filled with sparks, there are too many psychological descriptions that I cannot stand(I have to admit that some are very good), I dont know is this his own way of writing or other sociologists also do the same thing?
Finally, I want to return to talk about the direction of my thesis...... terrible that I still dont know why my tutur asked me to read his books.....But I guess as my topic is related with social elements and Giddens reconstructed the society(but I cannot find the relationship with my topic.....maybe I need to read more carefully, but! that book is too obscure and too philosophy! I am struggling when I was reading....) In terms of modernity, self-identity and traddions, I guess some breakthrough could be found there, but what exactly they are?
Anyway, it should not be a comment about this book....just my thoughts.......
