在学术范式上可资借鉴，但我认为内容上不少地方对中国文学存有误解。以主题分解文学，忽视语言本身的审美特性，读来似人类学或社会学研究。

第100页有个错误，《左传》是在《春秋》结束后又写了13年，而不是18年，结束在公元前468年，不是公元前463年。

全书自己最喜欢的就是导论结尾那一句:中国文学下一幕静待开场，大家拭目以待！落款1999年。中国开场的何止是文学，那是一整个WTO时代。

优点在于以专题划分的章节，对小众作家涉及得较多，缺点就在于讨论得太浅，不列举具体作品篇目原文维护了专题文章的条理和系统性，但是也缺少说服力和权威性，部分篇目甚至只能称为学术散文，比起有些很创新出彩的章节来说就略显逊色了...
