Nocturnes (2009), his connected stories collection, was awarded the Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa International Literary Prize. In 1995 Ishiguro received an OBE for Services to Literature and in 1998 the French decoration of Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
"But Axl, we can't even remember those days. Or any of the years between. We don't remember our fierce quarrels or the small moments we enjoyed and treasured. We don't remember our son or why he's away from us."
"We can make all those memories come back, princess. Besides, the feeling in my heart for you will be there just the same, no matter what I remember or forget. Don't you feel the same, princess?"
"I do, Axl. But then again I wonder if what we feel in our hearts isn't like those raindrops still falling on us from the soaked leaves above, even though the sky itself long stopped raining. I'm wondering if without our memories, there's nothing for it but for our love to fade and die."

A subtle shift from his earlier inquiries into “how things are remembered/reminisced” to a new inquiry into the ethics of remembering - the duty to remember and the urge to forget. A very powerful allegorical (epic) story. But you also see how Ishiguro stepped out of his comfort zone in this novel (narrative & style).(展开)
The Remains of the Day长日留痕 和 Never Let Me Go 别让我走,都应该还算他的代表作。

When someone wrote something that you have long tried to write about, and he did it so so much better.
