相比女性主义，实际上她对种族与孤独的讨论更深刻。她于南非、她于父亲，使得种族成为她写作不能避免的主题。她没有过度浪漫化童年和青少年时期的经历，那个说话声音小小的、在意蜜蜂和洗衣机的女孩子，都被碾碎却珍藏在她的口袋里面。好喜欢第二三章，很明显流浪之感和政治性抑郁过早侵蚀了她，
