威廉·达尔林谱 William Dalrymple，苏格兰人，在佛斯海湾边长大。曾为《独立报》专栏作家。年方二十二岁便出版了畅销又备受好评的《在萨那都》，此书曾于1990获得《约克郡邮报》的最佳处女作品奖，以及苏格兰艺术协会春季图书奖。1989年他迁居德里，在当地居住四年，为本书搜集资料并为《星期天通讯》、《观察者》、《观察家》以及《周日时报》等报纸撰稿。曾获《周日时报》年度英国青年作家奖。威廉·达尔林普与艺术家奥利维亚·弗莱瑟结婚，目前在伦敦和爱丁堡两地居住。
