作者认为保加利亚人过于内省避世,波格米勒派的盛行导致其对政府和政治的消极态度,对于土耳其和苏联的统治都不像其它邻国那样有过激烈反抗。并认为这些倾向有碍保加利亚在当代的发展,

写一部通史实属不易,作者也提到了日夫科夫政权末期的土耳其民族政策和核工业引发的健康和环境问题。对于当代史也着手记载。但是最后的结论有点画蛇添足。就地缘政治视角来说,保加利亚始终面对来自小亚细亚的压力,无论是拜占庭还是奥斯曼帝国。如果民族特性是对政治消极,那不会有第二保加利亚王国和chiprovtsi起义,四月起义。现实世界三巨头秘密分割欧洲,如若不是看重希,土的战略价值,恐怕徒增“不抵抗”国家。
