You only need two yellow tones in your paintbox, cadmium yellow or pure yellow and Naples yellow. Actually, the white content of Naples yellow makes it break into a pasty hue when mixed with other colors, forming, for instance, dramatic grays for stormy skies.

Tip: Yellow is very sensitive to impurities. When painting, make sure not to dip your brush into yellow if any other paint is already on it, and use lots of fresh, clean water when working with yellow.
