the skills involved in being an effective communicator vary dramatically from one culture to another. In the United States and other Anglo-Saxon cultures, people are trained (mostly subconsciously) to communicate as literally and explicitly as possible. Good communication is all about clarity and explicitness, and accountability for accurate transmission of the message is placed firmly on the communicator. "If you don't understand, it's my fault."
By contrast, in many Asian cultures, and to a lesser degree Latin America and Latin European (Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France) cultures, messages are often conveyed implicitly, requiring the listener to read between the lines. 同事刚推荐的时候,我想大概是商学院的老师收集刻板印象的一本水书吧。地铁上有空就翻两页,越发惊喜。大多数人通过经历看世界,可即便在一个国家学习生活了很多年,也只是看到有限的局部。如果能高一个视角看习惯的冲突和差异,如果能预知到尚未具备全球视野的合作伙伴的沟通习惯差异,会少不少苦恼吧。

非常好的针对职场文化差异的讨论和总结。很好的架构,用8个维度来解释不同国家的职场人在沟通合作方面的差异和矛盾:高语意沟通与低语意沟通,关系信任与任务信任,层级管理与民主管理,直接反馈与间接反馈,原则说服与应用说服,协商决定与高层决定,直接否定与避免冲突,守时与灵活。记住这些有利于在跨文化沟通的时候更自如,但是不要轻易尝试作为外国人使用对方的文化,尤其是在直接批评与反馈方面。
