Pierre Bourdieu's "Distinction" brilliantly illuminates the social pretentions of the middle classes in the modern world, focusing on the tastes and preferences of the French bourgeoisie. First published in 1979, the book is at once a vast ethnography of contemporary France and a dissection of the bourgeois mind. In the course of everyday life, we constantly choose between what we find aesthetically pleasing, and what we consider tacky, merely trendy, or ugly. Taste is not pure. Bourdieu demonstrates that our different aesthetic choices are all distinctions - that is, choices made in opposition to those made by other classes. This fascinating work argues that the social world functions simultaneously as a system of power relations and as a symbolic system in which minute distinctions of taste become the basis for social judgement.

收获很多，过了一遍可能不太仔细，之后用的时候回看。对贵族，大资产阶级(新，旧)，小资产阶级(新旧)，工人阶级都分析(黑)了个遍。实证的部分很有趣，理论的部分很迷糊。

布尔迪厄观察的很仔细，他的很多分析在生活中都是可以找到相应的现象的。不过语言太晦涩了。我不敢保证这本书我看懂了多少，但是相比之下专八阅读以及很多其他的英文的东西真是无压力了

借着翻译看完了整本，其实布迪厄原文的描述还是比较易懂的，看完原文再看相关文章或中译本，脑袋里也有了更多的印象。
