Has written four novels, The Benefactor, Death Kit, The Volcano Lover and In America, which won the 2000 National Book Award for fiction; a collection of stories, I, etcetera; Several plays, including Alice in Bed; and eight books of essays, Against Interpretation, Styles of Radical Will, On Photography, Illness as Metaphor & AIDS and Its Metaphors, Under the Sign of Saturn, Where the Stress Falls, Regarding the Pain of Others and At the Same Time. Her books are translated into thirty-two languages. In 2001 she was awarded the Jerusalem Prize for her body of work, and in 2003 she received the Prince of Asturias Prize for Literature and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. She died in December 2004.

只看了中文部分，应该看那个插图版的。主要讨论了摄影是不是艺术，摄影的“龌龊”等等，基本没怎么讲摄影的好处，不是做学问搞研究的就不要看了，好在不长，有闲工夫可以一看。//2023.06.10

在没看这本书之前，随着拍的照片越来越多，我意识到摄影是关乎占有的。这本书肯定了我对摄影的这一看法，并且丰富了我对摄影复杂本质的认识，这也让我开始对摄影感到失望。

翻译逐字逐句其实蛮好的，译者加的注释也证明他的胸襟有容乃大。但我觉得还是要读原著，英文书写思维逻辑还是不一样。翻译真的好难啊……
