After the Russian invasion in August 1968, his books were proscribed. In 1975, he and his wife settled in France, and in 1981, he became a French citizen. He is the author of the novels The Joke, 'Life is Elsewhere', 'Farewell Waltz', The Book of Laughter and Forgetting, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, and Immortality, and of the short-story collection 'Laughable Loves' - all originally in Czech. His non-fiction works The Art of the Novel and Testaments Betrayed: An Essay in Nine Parts, were originally written in French. He is also the author of Identity, and Ignorance.

Michael Henry Heim的译本太流畅太美妙,不愧是翻译泰斗,语言天才。不知为何阅读时总想起《世界上最糟糕的人》,爱真是迷人又看不透的幻境,像迷宫一般让人走出来又走进去。

Compassion 一点点的拖着 Tomas 放弃了他的 "强" ,Tereza 的弱让她成为那个有能力改变对方意志的人,强弱没有绝对。也因为Tomas足够柔软来承受这么多的 compassion,成了这本里我最喜欢的角色。 “我感受到你的感受” 这到底是不是爱?但至少这让他们永远无法分开,“他们平静的生活在一起” 这似乎是一个标准的媚俗结局,但真是个温柔的结局。 Sabina是背叛者...
