From their meeting in 1921, Vladimir's letters to his beloved Véra form a narrative arc that tells a forty-six year-long love story, and they are memorable in their entirety. 纳博科夫这个毒舌写起情书来竟然齁得要死！“天堂应该挺无聊的，到处是天使翅膀抖落的绒毛，所以禁止吸烟；不过有时，天使们偷偷抽烟，把烟藏在袖子里。天使长巡视的时候，它们就悄悄把烟头弹掉，这就是你看到的流星啦。”真是可爱。
